IND vs ENG 3rd Test: England Win By 22 Runs, Take 2-1 Series Lead In Lord’s Thriller. England won a thriller against India in the third Test at Lord’s, winning by 22 runs to move 2-1 up in the current five-match Test series. Joe Root was the main man with a wonderful century, making history in several ways—first, reaching 3000 Test runs against India, and surpassing Graham Gooch as the highest run-scorer at Lord’s.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, things started poorly for England, who lost a couple of early wickets. Root (104), along with Jamie Smith (51), stabilized the innings with a superb 109-run partnership and contributed to a total of 387. Nitish Kumar Reddy’s two early wickets for India were impressive for a debutant. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja contributed early to England’s downfall.

In reply, India had contributions from Rishabh Pant (72) and KL Rahul (100). But consistent pace bowling from Jofra Archer and Chris Woakes kept them to 387, thus leveling the scores.

Root steadies England, Bumrah and Jadeja keeps India in the game

In the second innings, England’s middle order somewhat crumbled, but Joe Root remained obstinate with a 40 that allowed England to set India a target of 193. Jasprit Bumrah and Sundar kept India in the race, reducing England to 192 in their second innings.

In chase of 193, India fell apart at 58/4 on Day 4. Ravindra Jadeja (61*) and Bumrah (5 off 54) nearly pulled off an incredible win with a 49-run ninth-wicket partnership. Yet, England held their nerve and dismissed India for 170 to win in what was a tough battle.

This match had plenty of drama—including an outrageous delay in play because of a ladybug invasion—and landmark moments for Root, Rahul, and Bumrah. Ben Stokes was awarded the player of the match. Now with the series at 2–1 to England, we turn our attention to the fourth Test, where India will hope to turn the tide.
