BCCI Announces 18-Member Squad for England Series: Shubman Gill Named Captain. Shubman Gill was crowned the Test captain as the BCCI announced the 18-member squad for the Test series against England. It’s Rishabh Pant who was returning after a long time to be once again appointed the vice-captain and wicket-keeper.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer has been surprisingly left out of the squad. This is a major change in leadership, with Gill finally picking up the baton from the last regime and a squad that is a peculiar mix of youth and experience.

Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC, WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav.

The squad consists of some fresh talents like Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy. They have been rewarded for their performances and consistency. Putting in some additional experience into the batting line, KL Rahul and Karun Nair would be accompanied by the senior Jadeja as an all-rounder.

Team India’s pace attack is led by Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj, along with Thakur, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep. Kuldeep Yadav remains the only wrist spinner selected for the series.

Having numerous all-rounders, as well as a host of other young players in their team, is a clear indication that Indian cricket is transitioning. this, as they prepare for the critical series against England.

With Shreyas Iyer’s absence raising eyebrows, it will now be up to the young leader, Shubman Gill, to assist the young leadership group in facing the experience of Test cricket in England.
