Asia Cup 2025: Gill, Siraj Set To Miss Out, Samson-Abhishek Locked In As Openers. As the announcement of the Asia Cup 2025 squad draws nearer, sources have indicated that India can go with some surprises in their final selection. First of all, both Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj are likely to find their names in the squad. Even though they are both proven names across formats. Gill, who has been tremendous in Tests and IPL cricket, may not get the selectors’ nod for just one more explosive option at the top of the order.
Samson and Abhishek to Open
India’s first combination looks all but decided, with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma set to open the innings. Samson, who has had an excellent time of late, should be able to provide some stability as he knows that Abhishek, the world’s No. 1 T20I batter, will be applying pressure with aggressive intent. This opening combination fits India’s intent of bringing stability whilst being aggressive.
Jaiswal as Backup Opener
Selectors also see a backup opener, and currently, Yashasvi Jaiswal is leading the path here. Although it looked unlikely of an inclusion some time ago, Jaiswal is now edging ahead of Gill in the race. He can play aggressive cricket and based on his past performances in white-ball cricket, he might get selected.
Harshit Rana or Prasidh Krishna for the bowler role
Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna are in the running for the bowler role. With Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh likely to have the pace department down as initial picks, the third fast bowling slot is between Harshit and Prasidh. His IPL 2025 heroics should make him a strong candidate, and Harshit’s recent international performances will also only help his case.
