Abhishek Sharma Breaks Rizwan’s Record For Most Runs In A T20 Asia Cup Edition. India’s promising young batter Abhishek Sharma has made history by breaking Mohammad Rizwan’s long-standing record for most runs scored in a T20 Asia Cup edition. The left-handed opener did so during India’s Super 4 match against Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Stadium.
Sharma made a quick-fire 61 runs off 31 balls, with 8 fours and 2 sixes, to propel India’s innings and increased his season total to 309 runs after six innings. He is now the first batter to exceed 300 runs in a T20 Asian Cup, surpassing Rizwan’s record of 281 runs from the 2022 edition and also surpassing Virat Kohli’s record of 276 runs from the same tournament.
A Tournament of Consistency
The 24-year-old opener has emerged as the front-runner for India throughout the 2025 season. He set the pace with an explosive 74 against Pakistan and then backed it up with another 75 runs against Bangladesh. He has gone higher than 30 runs in the tournament, mixing aggressive stroke play with maturity to give India explosive starts, laying the foundation for a handful of convincing victories.
Sharma’s current position at the top of the all-time Asia Cup T20 lists is now a matter of statistical record, after scoring:
- 309 in 6 innings (2025) – Abhishek Sharma
- 281 in 6 innings (2022) – Mohammad Rizwan
- 276 in 5 innings (2022) – Virat Kohli
