There is expected to be a new twist in the IPL 2022 mega auctions rule. As per reports, BCCI is mulling over allowing only four players to be retained by all eight franchises. This will come as a big surprise to all IPL franchises. A maximum of four players can be retained in the combination of 2 Indian and two foreign or 3 Indian and one foreign player.
According to top sources, BCCI top brass brainstormed about the upcoming auction of the two new teams and the tweak in auction rule. The board has almost finalized the legal work and other formalities ahead of the new auction of the two new teams for IPL 2022. BCCI will announce the name of two new IPL teams on 25th October 2021 in Dubai.
There are also talks that the two new teams will be Ahmedabad and Lucknow. These two cities are also in the news due to the renovated world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad and a new International cricket stadium constructed in Lucknow.
Suppose this report of the maximum retention of only three players becomes true. In that case, many teams such as Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals will have to part ways with few of their regular stars. The team management will have to formulate a new strategy about whom to retain and whom to pick in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
