Lionel Messi, who recently led Argentina to the Copa Cup title under his captaincy, is ready to take a 50 percent salary cut.

Reason Behind Massive Pay Cut

It is being said that Spanish club Barcelona is currently in huge debt. The Spanish league La Liga had instructed the club to reduce its massive expenses. This is the reason why Spanish club Barcelona could not give Lionel Messi more money even if he wanted to.

Some reports say that Club has been reduced its annual spending from around $700 million to $350 million. Now ace footballer will stay with his lifelong club.

Messi turned 34 in June and his new deal with Barca will be set at around £290 million. (2900 crore)

Messi made the biggest deal in sports history with Barcelona in 2017 worth 555 million euros (about Rs 5000 crore). He used to get 137 million euros (about Rs 1150 crore) for a season.

According to the British newspaper The Sun, Messi may get half the salary in the new deal with Barca.

But even after the salary cut, Messi will earn around 1.1 million pounds (about Rs 11 crore) every week. Ronaldo (club Juventus), gets 0.9 million pounds (about 9.2 crores rupees) every week.
