Quinton de Kock Becomes Second-Fastest To 7,000 ODI Runs. Quinton de Kock has made an incredible comeback, becoming the second-fastest player to accumulate 7,000 runs in One-Day Internationals. He achieved this remarkable feat in just 158 innings, ahead of legends like Kane Williamson (159), Virat Kohli (161), and AB de Villiers (166), with only Hashim Amla (150) being faster.
He made history against Pakistan in the third ODI when he reached the landmark on November 8, 2025, at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. Opening the innings, de Kock scored a measured 53 runs in 70 balls, with six fours and one six. His innings not only gave South Africa the series victory, but they also earned him the Player of the Series award for consistent batting performances in the tour.
A Special Comeback
His history validates De Kock’s achievements. In 2023, he announced his retirement from international cricket but made a sensational return to ODI cricket in 2025. His return to ODI cricket was stamped with class and dominance; he scored 63 (71) in the first ODI before being named Player of the Match for his match-winning innings of 123 (119)*, and he exhibited remarkable reductions to win the Player of the Series award for scoring 53 (70) in the third ODI.
With those individual knocks, de Kock is now the highest run-scorer in the series, and he has again solidified his position as one of South Africa’s greatest limited-overs cricketers of all time.
A History of Greatness
He has been known for his fearless stroke play and his reliability in the white-ball format. His return and immediate success demonstrate his ability and mental fortitude, which all champions have.
