Delhi High Court Grants LSG Owner Sanjiv Goenka Personality Rights Protection

Delhi High Court Sanjiv Goenka news

Delhi High Court Grants Sanjiv Goenka Personality Rights Protection. The Delhi High Court has granted personality rights protection to Sanjiv Goenka. He owns the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. The court stopped the unauthorised use of his name, image, and overall identity. This includes morphed pictures, fake posts, and AI-generated content.

Deepfakes and AI Content Under Scrutiny

Goenka moved court after facing online trolling during the IPL season. Many posts showed edited images and misleading claims about him. His legal team argued this harmed his reputation and public image. The court agreed and called such content harmful, not simple humour. It said deepfakes and fake visuals can damage a person’s dignity. The order may force platforms to remove such content quickly.

This decision follows similar protection given to other famous personalities. These include Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. Cricket names like Sunil Gavaskar and Gautam Gambhir also received relief. In Gambhir’s case, the court blocked the misuse of his identity online. It also ordered the removal of misleading AI-based content.

Personality rights are not written in one law in India. Courts treat them as part of privacy and personal dignity. These rights protect a person’s name, voice, and image. Experts say such cases are rising due to AI tools. Fake images and videos are now easier to create and spread.
