Lucknow Super Giants Set to Part Ways With Zaheer Khan Ahead of IPL 2026. According to reports, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to decide to part ways with mentor Zaheer Khan, ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This marks the end of his one-year stint with the team. Zaheer joined LSG before the 2025 edition of the IPL to replace Gautam Gambhir as mentor. He also took on the duties of the team’s bowling coach after Morne Morkel left.
Despite his experience and great leadership credentials from his time at the Mumbai Indians, LSG had an underwhelming IPL 2025 season, finishing seventh on the points table. They only won six out of fourteen matches. The unsuccessful season prompted the franchise to begin a large restructuring this season.
Franchise Restructure
Sanjiv Goenka, the owner, is currently in the United Kingdom as part of The Hundred and is reported to be pursuing appointing a Director of Cricket to oversee cricketing operations of the RPSG Group and the franchise values of LSG and the group’s franchise in Durban, Super Giants (SA20), and Manchester Originals (The Hundred).

As part of this process, LSG has appointed Bharat Arun, a former India bowling coach, to focus on scouting and developing young pace bowlers across the teams in the group. The mentor position itself will evolve into a more strategic role with broader operational oversight.
It is now time to see how things evolve, as the countdown to IPL 2026 is likely underway, and if the new leader will make any difference, or if any of these changes will help the team progress to next season.
