IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill Creates History with Double Century as India Captain in England. On Day 2 of the second Test at Edgbaston, Shubman Gill made history by becoming the first Indian captain to score a double century in a Test match played on English soil. He brought up the 200 mark without effort, ending on 200 from 311 balls with 21 fours and 2 sixes. Gill’s record-breaking innings ultimately helped India to set a commanding first-innings score against England.

Gill started the day on 114 and went on to display tactical control, judgment, and concentration with some fine stroke play in compiling a fifth-wicket partnership of over 200 with Ravindra Jadeja (89). After Gill was dismissed, Washington Sundar provided good support to push India past the 400 mark before lunch on Day 2. With this achievement, Gill broke the long-standing records set by legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli and became the only double century on record as an Indian Test captain played in England.

Gill, coming from his century in the first Test at Headingley, is now one of just four Indian captains, along with Hazare, Gavaskar, and Kohli, to score a hundred in their first two Tests as captain. Gill’s back-to-back centuries as captain have allowed him to gain a dream start to his captaincy period, with his performance demonstrating great maturity, leadership, and quality as a batsman.
