IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant Breaks MS Dhoni’s Record for Most Test Centuries. Rishabh Pant has now cemented his place in Indian cricket as wicketkeeper with the most Test centuries. During Day 2 of the 1st Test against England at Headingley, Pant collected his seventh Test century, overtaking the great MS Dhoni, who recorded six centuries in 90 Tests.
Pant did so in just his 44th Test. This speaks to the rate at which he has matured as a red-ball cricketer. He smashed 134 off 177 balls, with 12 fours and 6 sixes. Shaping it with an unbeaten flashy counter-attack brand of making runs, strokeplay and fearless intent that has become characteristic of his batting.
His Test hundreds have come at different phases in harsh conditions, including memorable knocks in Australia, South Africa and England. Dhoni redefined the keeper-batter space in Indian cricket with his success as a wicketkeeper-batter and only scored six Test hundreds, much later in his career. His highest ever was 224 vs Australia in Chennai (2013), which will forever remain historic.
