Darjeeling’s New Cricket Stadium To Be Named After Richa Ghosh, Confirms West Bengal CM. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared that a new cricket stadium in Darjeeling will be named after India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh.
The declaration came on November 10, 2025, during a felicitation ceremony in Kolkata, post India winning the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Banerjee said the new cricket stadium, which will be built on 27 acres of land in the Darjeeling-Siliguri area, will be named “Richa Cricket Stadium”. The Chief Minister explained that the initiative is in respect to the state’s young sporting icon and a way to promote women’s cricket in North Bengal.

At 22, Richa Ghosh has achieved an extraordinary career that only a few athletes reach at such an early age. She debuted for India at the age of 16 years and captained India in the U19 Women’s World Cup. She has subsequently moved up to be both a key player on the senior team and continued success with India by winning a gold medal at the 2023 Asian Games in China and a silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In addition, Richa holds the record for the fastest T20I fifty by an Indian woman, showing both explosive batting and an ability to deliver during key moments.

In addition to her global triumphs, Richa Ghosh has left her imprint on franchise and domestic cricket. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) crown and playing a major role in India’s World Cup-winning effort earlier this year are just two of her recent accomplishments. Following her successes in the field, she was named a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Bengal Police by the government of West Bengal. With plans to name a stadium after her, Richa joins an exclusive club of athletes who have a stadium named after them in their state.

The Richa Cricket Stadium will be the first cricketing venue in the country to be named after a woman cricketer, which holds tremendous significance.
