WTC 2025-27: Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 1st Test Ends in a Draw. The Galle International Stadium was hosting the inaugural Test of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh when rain forced a draw on the final day. The match ended without a result; both teams collected 4 points as they began their 2025-27 WTC campaign. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh now sit jointly top of the WTC standings with a points percentage of 33.33%.
Having won the toss, Bangladesh piled on a phenomenal first innings total of 495. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto led with 148, while the ever-reliable Mushfiqur Rahim slapped an elegant 163. Litton Das, with a fluent 90, struck early to put Bangladesh in a very commanding position. Sri Lanka then gave a patient response of 485. Pathum Nissanka scored a career-best 187, while Kamindu Mendis (87) supported him well.
Bangladesh declared at 285/6 in their second innings, with Shanto unbeaten on 125 to become the first Bangladeshi captain to score hundreds in both innings of a Test. Shadman Islam made 76. Sri Lanka set the target of 296 in limited time. But on the last day, heavy rains allowed only a glimpse of play. Taijul Islam took three wickets in quick succession, reducing Sri Lanka to 72/4, but time ran out for a win.

With four points each added to their respective WTC tally, Najmul Hossain Shanto from Bangladesh earned the Man of the Match for his two centuries. Set to commence later this week in Colombo, the second and concluding test of the series remains open. The cricketing focus now moves to the highly anticipated India vs. England 1st Test of WTC 2025-2027.
