WPL 2026: Season 4 To be Held In January Instead Of February-March. The upcoming fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set for January 2026, instead of the traditional time frame of February-March. The schedule will allow the tournament to start on or around January 6 or January 8, 2026, and finish well in advance of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 hosted by India and Sri Lanka, scheduled for February-March.
WPL has historically occurred in the early part of the year; however, with a tighter global calendar occurring in 2026, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has opted to bring the schedule forward. This also means that players from around the world won’t have to worry about the schedule and dealing with conflicts of overlapping plays.
Since its inception, the five-team tournament has become a watershed for women’s cricket, drawing interest from around the world and placing players, from future stars to those who were household names internationally, into one event, and gaining exposure and interest through the tournament. Hopefully, if the timing of the event goes according to plan, WPL 2026 will capture fans’ attention before the men’s global event comes into view.

This change also emphasizes the importance of women’s cricket, with administrators now prioritizing its own window instead of forcing it in between men’s international matches. With pent-up excitement growing, supporters can expect another season of high-quality cricket as the WPL continues to establish itself as a leading global platform for the sport.
