Smriti Mandhana Becomes World No.1 in ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings. Smriti Mandhana, India’s opening batter, has returned to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Women’s ODI batting rankings, surpassing England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt following her brilliant half-century (58 runs off 63 balls, including six fours and two sixes) in the first ODI against Australia at New Chandigarh (Mullanpur).
Her innings may not have delivered victory for India—Australia won by eight wickets—but it propelled Mandhana to 735 rating points for a four-point lead over Sciver-Brunt in the rankings. For the 28-year-old Mandhana, this marks the fourth time she has achieved the No. 1 ranking after first reaching the pinnacle in 2019 and her June and July successes in 2023.

Perfect Timing Ahead of the World Cup
Mandhana’s rankings achievement comes ahead of the Women’s World Cup 2025 in less than two weeks, providing a major boost for India’s campaign as they hope to end their streak of failures since the inaugural event in 1973. Mandhana’s near-monthly run of success this season has included a mix of centuries and fifties when forging to the crease under pressure to anchor innings. Her return to the top of the ODI batting rankings reinforces her status as one of the elite batters in women’s cricket, both domestically and globally.
Other Indian players also appeared in the rankings: Pratika Rawal moved into 42nd place after scoring 64, and Harleen Deol moved into 43rd place after scoring 54. In its rankings for women’s bowlers, Sneh Rana moved up five places to 13th. For Australia, Beth Mooney’s 77 not out took her to 5th place, and Kim Garth and Alana King achieved their all-time best ranks, fifth on the women’s bowling ranking.
