Sachin Tendulkar Rules Out BCCI President Candidacy. Sachin Tendulkar, the legendary cricketer, has firmly closed the door on any chance of him being a candidate to become the next President of BCCI—a speculation that persisted for days.
Amid talk that Tendulkar was going to emerge as a communal choice to replace Roger Binny. His management group, SRT Sports Management Pvt Ltd, gave a clear message recently. It mentioned that there had not been any such development and warned supporters and media not to adhere to “baseless speculations.”
Speculation Around Tendulkar’s Name
This speculation was amplified when Binny resigned, having turned 70, to respect BCCI’s age-cap policy. Now, with elections not happening until 28 September 2025, there were numerous names being thrown around in consideration for the presidency. Tendulkar being the ultimate icon of Indian cricket, was open for speculation.
Despite Tendulkar being a potential candidate, at no time had he received any nomination from any state body nor indicated intent to enter a full-time administration role. This adds to the ambiguity of him as a candidate. But represents the immense interest that former players, like Sourav Ganguly and Binny himself, command for positions of responsibility.

For the moment, we turn our attention to other strong candidates. Rajeev Shukla—who is documentally in interim mode—is viewed as the right person to lead the BCCI again. The presidential elections will occur during the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting. It will also decide the team that will run the BCCI. The team also includes the vice president, secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer.
Tendulkar’s choice to stay out of the fight simply highlights that while his stature as a cricketer will never be exceeded, he may need to stay away from the administrative spotlight, at least for now.
