RP Singh And Pragyan Ojha in Fray To Become India’s National Selectors. Former Indian cricketers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha seem to be leading candidates for two vacancies in the BCCI’s senior men’s selection committee.

The BCCI has recently called for applications to fill two seats. One for a South Zone selector, previously held by S. Sharath, and one for the role of Central Zone selector. Sources suggest Ojha is highly favored to replace Sharath. RP Singh is among the candidates for the open Central Zone position.

Candidates, as per the eligibility criteria, must have retired for 5 years. They must have played a minimum of 7 Tests, or a minimum of 30 first-class matches, or 10 ODIs, along with 20 first-class matches as a minimum. Candidates must not have had another 5 cumulative years of involvement on a BCCI cricket committee. Both Ojha and RP Singh meet that requirement. They both have had extensive careers with the Indian side and have transitioned from their playing careers into other roles post-retirement with relative ease.

The final decision will be made by the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshna Naik. They will shortlist applicants and conduct interviews before providing recommendations to the BCCI office bearers. It is anticipated that a decision will be made on the new appointees next month.

Involving seasoned professionals such as Ojha, a successful left-arm spinner, and Singh, a previous pace spearhead, is clearly a means of infusing new ideas into India’s selection process. Given that Indian cricket is in a transitional phase. Their opinions will be of great significance in selecting teams for future tours and ICC tournaments.
