Roston Chase Appointed as New Test Captain Of West Indies. After Kraigg Brathwaite decided to resign from his position in March, CWI officially announced Roston Chase as the West Indies Test team captain. The experienced all-rounder takes over the reins of the side during critical times for West Indies cricket. A Test series against Australia is looming in the days ahead.
Chase, 33, has played 49 Tests in the international arena since 2016, amassing over 2,300 runs and grabbing 85 wickets with his off-spin bowling. He has not played a Test since March of 2023. Still, he remains active in domestic cricket. Roston is held in high esteem for his tactical knowledge and calm attitude on and off the field. The CWI selection panel gave prominence to Chase in an internal process for the role, reportedly placing him above other contenders such as Joshua Da Silva and John Campbell.
The new captain’s first assignment is to lead the team in a three-match home series against Australia that commences in Bridgetown on June 25. This series serves as the West Indies’ opening series for the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship. The new skipper is expected to infuse some fresh ideas into the squad.
