Piyush Chawla Bids Adieu: World Cup Winner Retires from All Forms of Cricket. The legendary leg-spinner Piyush Chawla announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on June 6, 2025, putting an end to a magnificent 19-year career of international, domestic, and franchise cricket. Chawla made his international debut at the tender age of 17 in 2006. He has represented India in 3 Tests, 25 ODIs, and 7 T20Is. Even though he did not get to represent the country that much, Chawla was part of two of India’s most storied cricketing triumphs—the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup and the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup teams.
A player with leg-spin and killing options with the bat, Chawla was immensely successful in the domestic arena, particularly for Gujarat, and also in the IPL. He made a mark with the KKR and won the IPL trophy twice with them. Chawla has 179 wickets in 181 IPL matches, making him one of the highest wicket-takers in the league.
An amazing first-class record, 443 wickets, and a somewhat handy lower-order batting style that yielded him about 5,000 runs plus in 137 matches. Being a consistent performer in the Ranji Trophy, he also played a key role in Gujarat’s domestic success over the last few years.

His retirement has come after a gradual forsaking of his place on the field, though he was still playing IPL until the 2024 season for the Mumbai Indians. As the cricket fraternity bids adieu to him, tributes have poured in from teammates and fans, appreciating his contribution to the Indian cricket team.
