Josh Hazlewood Ruled Out of ICC T20 World Cup 2026

Josh Hazlewood news

Josh Hazlewood Ruled Out of ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Australia has suffered a massive setback ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Senior fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out due to injury. Cricket Australia confirmed Hazlewood failed to recover within the required timeframe. Medical staff advised against rushing his return for the global tournament.

Hazlewood’s absence continues a long and frustrating injury phase since November 2024. He missed three Tests during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India. He was later ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy due to fitness concerns. The pacer also missed five tests during the 2025–26 Ashes series. Now, Hazlewood will miss the entire T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. This marks another major blow to Australia’s bowling plans.

Sean Abbott as replacement

Selectors are considering Sean Abbott as Hazlewood’s possible replacement. Abbott is currently with the squad as a travelling reserve. His domestic and international experience makes him a strong contender. A final decision on the replacement is expected soon. Australia’s pace crisis does not end with Hazlewood’s injury. Veteran left-armer Mitchell Starc will also miss the tournament. Starc made himself unavailable for T20 selection ahead of the event.

Captain Pat Cummins has been ruled out due to a back injury. This means Australia will play without all three senior fast bowlers. Such a scenario is rare in modern Australian cricket history. The responsibility will now fall on younger and less experienced pacers.
