Maxwell was a major presence in Punjab Kings’ middle order as well as their off-spin bowling department. But during last week’s training session, he suffered a finger injury. So, has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL 2025 season. The quick replacement with very similar conditions was found by the management for the new formation, going for the currently fit Owen, who had lit up the BBL 2024/25 season with his breathtaking performances.

Owen, who turns 23 shortly, had his own breakout BBL, converting people with both power hitting and versatility. He was a member of the Hobart Hurricanes, and with his 11 innings, he made 452 runs at the outstanding average of 45.20 with a staggering strike rate of 203.60. He made a competition—two centuries, one being an almost unbelievable 108—and smashed 35 fours and 36 sixes. Owen registered as one of the most dangerous finishers in Australia’s domestic circuit.

Given Punjab’s well-fought-out race for the playoffs, Owen’s arrival could provide the crucial push necessary in that department of finishing which they have sorely missed in their last games. Owen is expected to be available for selection in Punjab’s next fixture against the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
