IND vs SA Final: Women in Blue Crowned ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 Champions. India achieved a historic moment by being crowned the ICC Women’s World Cup champions for the first time in history with a thrilling 52-run victory over South Africa in the final at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. In front of a packed house and millions watching around the world, Harmanpreet Kaur’s team delivered, arguably, one of the great performances to take home the World Cup trophy.
India batted first and posted a hefty total of 298-7. Shafali Verma electrified the crowd with a blistering innings of 87 runs off 78 balls that featured some fearless stroke play. Smriti Mandhana kept up her great form with a solid 45 and, in the process, broke Mithali Raj’s longstanding record for the most runs scored by an Indian player in one Women’s World Cup. Deepti Sharma displayed her all-around prowess again, leading the team with a calm innings of 58, while Hika and the captain hit some quick runs in the death overs. Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa with three wickets.
Deepti and Renuka led India’s bowling attack
Chasing 299, South Africa started well, led by skipper Laura Wolvaardt. The right-hander played brilliantly, scoring an entertaining 102, which kept her side in the game. But India’s bowlers made the right moves at the right moments. Deepti Sharma was sensational with the ball, taking 5 wickets, with support from Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar. South Africa eventually fell to 246 all out in 45.3 overs, handing India an incredible 52-run victory.
As Harmanpreet Kaur presented the trophy to the team under the lights, there were plenty of emotions in and around the stadium. Shefali Verma was awarded player of the match for her excellent knock of 87. This was the beginning of a new era in Indian women’s cricket — a dream that has taken decades ‘in the making’. The victory has not only broken barriers for women’s sport into the mainstream but also inspired millions of young girls to begin their journeys with bat and ball.
