IND vs ENG: Prasidh Krishna Registered Worst Economy Rate in Test History. India pacer Prasidh Krishna has received a poor mark in Test cricket history, now holding the worst economy rate ever recorded (minimum 100 overs) in the longest format of the game. With an economy rate of 5.1 runs per over, Krishna has surpassed the previous holders of this record, which raises questions about his future in the Test team.

Krishna, each day, has been part of the pace attack for India in the ongoing Test series against England, but has lacked rhythm and control in repeating shorter spells with an unflattering economy rate. He has not only failed to contain runs but has also released pressure points, overburdening the bowling unit and not helping at crucial times. All other bowlers within the bottom (worst) economy rates are Varun Aaron (4.8), Zahir Khan (4.7), Aamer Jamal (4.6), and Naved Rana (4.6)—all showing some worrying similarities with inconsistent discipline.

Aakash Deep Likely Replacement for 3rd Test in the presence of Bumrah

With Krishna’s disappointing performance in a not-ideal series, the Indian team management is now debating whether to go with a different selection for the third Test. Given that Jasprit Bumrah is coming back, the pacer who is likely to step aside is Aakash Deep for Prasidh Krishna. Given that Aakash Deep has bowled in the 2nd test and taken 4 wickets in the 1st innings and now has a couple of wickets in the 2nd innings as well, it will be hard to leave him out. Aakash Deep also has great control and swing and bowled a long spell, which would balance out India’s attack with Bumrah and Siraj in more seam-friendly conditions in England.
