Root surpassed icons such as Ricky Ponting (2525 runs), Alastair Cook (2441 runs), and Steve Smith (2356 runs) to top the all-time list of Test runs scored against India. This record also comes in his 33rd Test against India, where he has an average of 89 and consistently makes runs, regardless of the conditions or whether he is playing in England or India.
Of the 3000 runs, Root has scored 10 centuries and 11 half-centuries, showcasing his ability to score big in crucial matches when presented with the chance. In fact, in the finished Headingley Test, he scored 53* chasing 371 for a five-wicket win.
