IND vs ENG: Arshdeep Singh Doubtful for 4th Test After Hand Injury. Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh is likely to miss the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester, after injuring his bowling hand during a practice session. The left-arm fast bowler suffered a deep cut while stopping a straight drive during the net session. It required stitches and has ruled him out of action for some days.

Unfortunately, this injury comes just days before the fourth Test is due to start, on July 23. It raises yet more questions over Arshdeep’s much-anticipated Test debut. India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed that the injury occurred and that the pacer was taken for medical assessment before confirming later on that the cut had required stitches. It will keep him out of action for several days.

Leading into the Test series, Arshdeep was viewed as a key inclusion given his ability to swing the ball in England (and also as a left-arm option). With his unavailability, India is likely now to rely heavily on Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. India may also need to consider Prasidh Krishna or another backup pacer.

To add to that, pace option Akash Deep is said to have a groin strain. He did not bowl in their last practice session.

With two Pacers’ fitness in doubt, the team management must weigh up whether to play a not-fully-fit attack or change the balance of the side. India is currently down 1-2 in the five-match series. The Manchester Test could prove crucial to their bid to level the series.
