IND vs ENG 2nd Test Day 4 Highlights: Shubman Gill Shines Again, England in Deep Trouble. India remained in total command on Day 4 of the second Test at Edgbaston and set England a mammoth target of 608 runs. Captain Shubman Gill, who had a record-breaking 269 in the first innings, scored an easy 161 runs in the second innings to become the first Indian player to score more than 400 runs in the same Test match (he made an astonishing 430 runs in all).
India started the day at 264/4. Gill was very well supported by KL Rahul (55), Rishabh Pant (65), and Ravindra Jadeja (69), all of whom made half-centuries. India declared at 427/6 and gave their bowlers more than four sessions to win the match. Team India scored more than 1,000 runs in a single test match.
England could have started their chase better. Mohammed Siraj quickly dismissed Zak Crawley for a duck, upon which Akash Deep bowled Joe Root, and England were 72/3 at stumps, still needing 536 runs to win.
Akash Deep and Siraj bowled excellently, exploiting the uneven bounce and cracks on the surface. India’s spin duo of Jadeja and Sundar haven’t had to bowl much yet, so England’s task looks almost impossible.
