The dispute began over Bangladesh’s reluctance to play matches in India after Mustafizur Rahaman was removed from KKR squad from IPL 2026. The BCB raised concerns related to security and political sensitivities. They requested all group matches to be moved to Sri Lanka.
The ICC rejected the proposal after reviewing logistics and schedules. Broadcast commitments and ticket sales were cited as major reasons. Group fixtures were finalised several months ago. The ICC has made its position very clear to the BCB. Bangladesh must play under the approved schedule. No special arrangements will be made beyond January 21.
Possible Replacement Team
If Bangladesh withdraws or fails to confirm, replacement plans are ready. The next best-ranked eligible team will be invited. Scotland are currently leading contenders. Scotland recently reached the Super 12 stage in major ICC events. They rank 12th in the ICC T20I rankings. They have won 58 T20Is from 122 matches.
