The visitors displayed determination and level-headedness while chasing a challenging target of 187 runs, winning with nine balls left to play.
Arshdeep Singh Shines with the ball
Australia batted first and scored 186/6 in 20 overs after winning the coin toss to bat. Tim David led the charge with a blistering 74 off 38 balls, with five sixes and eight fours. Marcus Stoinis provided excellent support, scoring 64 off 39 balls, with Australia scoring runs quickly. However, India’s bowlers piled up the pressure in the closing stages. Arshdeep Singh was once again superb with impressive figures of 3/35, and Varun Chakravarthy picked up two wickets in one over to stem the runs for Australia.
India started their innings cautiously after losing both opening batters in Shubman Gill (15) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (18). Washington Sundar provided a period of brilliance as India’s captain Suryakumar Yadav (24) and Tilak Varma (29) were rebuilding the innings. The all-rounder scored a fantastic 49* off only 23 balls, with four massive sixes, to win the match for India. Jitesh Sharma (22* off 15) provided valuable support during the final overs, with India eventually reaching 188/5 in 18.3 overs.
The victory made a statement about India’s increasing depth and adaptability, especially after a recent loss. Sundar’s all-around brilliance and Arshdeep’s consistency stood out in India’s demonstration of their character under pressure.
