Jitesh Sharma Likely To Be Picked In Team India’s Asia Cup 2025 Squad. Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma is fast emerging as the leading candidate for selection in India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, to be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28. Reports said that he could also be picked as the backup wicketkeeper, giving the squad both a finishing batter and a wicketkeeper.

Sanju Samson has been in terrific form and has experience playing under pressure in big games. He is expected to be the primary wicketkeeper. Selectors want a player who could bat in the bottom order and finish matches as well. Jitesh Sharma’s aggressive batting gives him the edge over the competition in Dhruv Jurel. He is also being considered for the second wicketkeeper role with the squad based on the current XI.

The BCCI selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, is expected to make the squad selection deadline on or around August 19 or 20. This will be after pending fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy. Other notable calls will be around Shubham Gill being made vice-captain and confirmation of the availability of players such as Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah for the tournament.

The possible squad will likely include a mix of youth and experience. Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Axar Patel are stepping in alongside some big names. The inclusion of Jitesh’s experience would give India a proven finisher. He had done exceptionally well for RCB in IPL 2025 with 261 runs with a SR of over 176.
