Joe Root was the best player from the English side. His superb 135* in the first innings not only gave England a good total but gave them hope. But, as there was no support coming from the rest of the players, England could not cling to the match.
Australia in Strong Position
Australia had no difficulty chasing the target and won by eight wickets, thus getting hold of the Ashes series. The bowlers were sharp, and the lower order batted well and showed why they are invincible at home, especially at the Gabba.
