Ashes 2025-26, 2nd Test Day 2 Highlights: Australia In Control at The Gabba With 378/6

AUS vs ENG 2nd Test, Day 2 Highlights

AUS vs ENG 2nd Test, Day 2 Highlights: Australia Seize Control at The Gabba. Australia took strong control of the second Ashes Test match at Brisbane by ending Day 2 with 378/6. Thus getting a 44-run lead over England’s first innings score of 334. The English team were all out in the morning session. Their overnight score was only minimally increased, thus giving Australia an advantage very early in the match.

Jake Weatherald was the top scorer for the hosts with his splendid 72 runs that came off his first Test fifty and were full of confident shot-making. Marnus Labuschagne scored 65 runs, while Steve Smith batted with a lot of composure and posted a score of 61 runs that made England very uncomfortable.

Cameron Green contributed significantly with his 45 runs. He was the last wicket to fall when England bowled for a short while. Nonetheless, the strong support from the lower order kept the hosts in a commanding position. At the close of play, Alex Carey was not out on 46*. He and Michael Neser (15*) had added a valuable late partnership.

Fielding Errors Worsen England’s Situation

The situation of England was made worse by five dropped catches. One of them being a chance off a crucial batter that could have shifted the momentum. These mistakes were very expensive and allowed the batting of Australia to thrive in a Test where control was constantly changing from one team to another in quick succession.

The bowling was not consistent with the pink ball. Even though the wickets came in short periods, the pressure was never really maintained. A good recovery in the field might have restricted the amount of advantage that Australia was able to gain going into Day 3.
