IPL 2025 Set to Resume: Franchises Rush to Recall Overseas Players. After being suspended for a week, IPL 2025 is ready to resume, triggering wide-ranging measures by all ten franchises to retrieve their overseas players and coaching staff to India. The tournament could get underway anytime on or after May 15, following the ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The suspension came after the missile and drone attack last week, close to Pathankot military base, also leading to the abandonment of a league match and the closure of airports in northern India for a period. Now, with some easing of tensions and a ceasefire in place, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is mounting an effort to try and complete the remaining 16 matches, including the playoffs, by the original date of May 25 in Kolkata.

Speaking anonymously, Franchise officials said they were in contact with players who had left the country or were in transit. Several team managers asked their players to halt travel or make preparations for an immediate return. At the peak of the uncertainty, quite a few foreign players had flown home, but now the situation seems to be speeding in reverse, almost with a sense of urgency to get the show on the road.
To avoid risks, the BCCI might also move matches to more secure southern cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. The board has equally big logical ideas, with broadcasters warning of great revenue loss if the league on time. A revised schedule is expected soon.
