India Tour of Ireland 2026: Talks Underway with BCCI. Cricket Ireland (CI) has initiated talks with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the possibility of hosting India in 2026. If this tour actually happens, we will see cricket in Ireland before India’s scheduled tour of England. That tour begins in July 2026.
The proposed series will feature white-ball matches. It remains unclear if this will be in the form of ODIs or T20Is, or both. Given India’s crowded calendar, Cricket Ireland hopes to schedule these matches for the last week of June, providing Irish fans with a rare opportunity to watch one of the world’s premier cricketing nations play in Ireland.
Stirling’s Concern About Home Fixtures
This possibility comes at a time when, as the captain, Paul Stirling has expressed some disappointment at the number of home fixtures for Ireland. The fact that Ireland needs more opportunities to play at home in conditions they are used to playing in. This past summer, Ireland had 9 men’s internationals. They lost the opportunity to play a number of the fixtures due to rain.
Beyond scheduling, there remain financial and logistical challenges. Earlier this year, Cricket Ireland had to scrap a home series against Afghanistan. They were under pressure to meet their budget. However, the board is confident, citing progress on their proposed international stadium in Abbotstown, near Dublin, which is being created in stages while also upgrading to international standards.

Alongside India, Ireland’s 2026 schedule is likely to include tours by New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, with plans for at least two Test matches. The prospect of a confirmed Indian visit would be very beneficial, both financially and in terms of exposure on the world stage, given that tours make money and ensure capacity crowds and great media coverage.
