His innings included several powerful boundaries and sixes. Sanju Samson played the best innings of the match. He smashed 89 runs from 46 balls with five fours and eight sixes. His knock became the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final. Samson controlled the middle overs and kept the scoreboard moving.
Ishan Kishan also played an important attacking innings. He scored 54 runs from just 24 balls. The Indian middle order kept the run rate very high. Shivam Dube finished strongly with 26 runs from eight balls. India finished their innings at 255 runs for five wickets. This became the highest team total in a T20 World Cup final. New Zealand faced a huge target of 256 runs.
New Zealand started positively but quickly lost important wickets. Indian bowlers applied constant pressure throughout the chase. Tim Seifert fought hard and scored 52 runs for New Zealand.
