Thiruvananthapuram Likely To Replace Bengaluru As Women’s World Cup 2025 Venue. The Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram will replace Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as the venue for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, which is slated for September 30 to November 2.

The news follows the awful June 4 stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium during IPL celebrations that left 11 dead and more than 50 injured. It was determined that the stadium was not suitable for major infrastructure events due to its overall construction and plans that were concluded not to provide proper safety for attendees.

To make matters worse for Bengaluru, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) failed to meet the August 10 deadline to apply for required police clearances from the state government, which the BCCI had indicated would be a requirement. Now there are serious concerns over major games, like the opening match between India and Sri Lanka, and one of the semi-finals, if not the final championship match.

In contrast, Thiruvananthapuram’s Greenfield Stadium is modern, has hosted various international fixtures, and has dramatically better weather. The infrastructure is also ready to go, and it is logistically close to Sri Lanka. Overall, this offers organizers an excellent opportunity.

While there has not yet been any public confirmation from the ICC or BCCI, sources say that a decision could be made within days. If confirmed, the Kerala Cricket Association may adjust its schedule of the Kerala Cricket League (August 21–September 7) to prepare a venue for World Cup activity.

With just under two months to go before the first ball, a switch of venues could meaningfully change the match scheduling and preparations for one of women’s cricket’s most established tournaments.
