IND vs ENG 5th Test Day 4 Highlights: Root, Brook Revive England’s chase, Poor Light Halts Play. Day 4 of the fifth Test between England and India at the Oval saw England finishing at 339 for 6 in the chase of 374. Just 35 runs remain for England, while India would require four wickets for a miraculous finish. The day finished early because of poor lighting and weather at the Oval.
India had the perfect start when Prasidh Krishna got Ben Duckett early, before removing Jacob Bethell and Root in a fiery spell. At 151 for 4, England was slipping, but Harry Brook’s aggressive 111 changed everything. He put up a crucial stand with Joe Root, who was out on 106 before stumps for his third hundred of the series and 39th overall.
The Indian bowlers did not let go of the pressure with probing spells after tea from Siraj and Akash Deep, with Siraj uprooting Ollie Pope. More bounce started to come out of the pitch, but Root’s calmness ensured England’s control.
Earlier in the day, Ravindra Jadeja had cemented his place in the record books, having become the first player in Test history to amass 500+ runs and 25+ wickets in a series against England, thereby establishing all-round superiority.
Tension was also evident as Yashasvi Jaiswal went up against Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope, once again exemplifying that this had been a tense contest.
