RAVICHANDRAN ASHWIN

There was a time when Ravichandran Ashwin was leading the spin attack for team India across Test, T20, and ODIs. But, in the last 3-4 years, things have taken a complete turn for Ashwin. Ashwin never got his due. He was dropped from the ODI squad in 2017 and subsequently from test cricket. Even Ashwin revealed that he was planning to quit cricket from 2018-2020.

If we talk about the stats of Ashwin, his economy rate is better than Kuldeep Yadav and Chahal, both of who are given preference over Ashwin. He does not have an attitude to show off, does not have any tattoo habits like his fellow teammates, and is indeed an extremely underrated player.

SHIKHAR DHAWAN

Shikhar Dhawan tops the list of underrated players in India. He has been in the scheme of things for a long time, but somehow or the other, he has not got a consistent opportunity to be in the squad. If we reflect on his stats across all formats, the left-handed opening batsman has scored around 16,000 runs.

He is even the first player to score back-to-back centuries in the IPL. But, the team management and selectors have always overlooked Shikhar Dhawan. He is only selected when the leading players such as Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli take a rest. This is a complete injustice on the part of the selectors to not consider Shikhar Dhawan as a regular player across any format in the national team.

PRITHVI SHAW

Prithvi Shaw is also one of the underrated players in Indian Cricket. The right-handed attacking batsman, when is on strike, has the power to torment the bowling attack. The cricket experts have even compared his batting to that of Virender Sehwag. A player with such an aggressive intent will always be an X factor for any team.

But, sadly, the selectors think other ways. He is now mostly confined to playing in the IPL and domestic cricket. He has just featured in 12 matches combined in all formats for the national team, which clearly is an injustice for such a talented player.

SURYAKUMAR YADAV

Suryakumar Yadav has been one of the most important players for the Mumbai Indians over the last few years. In fact, if we say he is the most consistent batsman for the franchise, it won’t be an understatement. But, if the performance in the IPL is one of the essential criteria for selection in the Indian team, then this theory does not fit with a player like SKY. He has not got the appreciation he deserves in Indian Cricket.

The 360-degree player recently showed the entire world his batting class against England in the third T20 match, scoring a breathtaking century in just 48 balls. Surya Kumar Yadav is extremely talented, and he should be given a consistent opportunity across all formats.

RAHUL TRIPATHI

Rahul Tripathi was one of the most successful players in the IPL 2022. He was the highest run-getter for Sunrisers Hyderabad, scoring 413 runs in 14 innings, at an average of 38 and strike rate of close to 160. His fan base increased drastically, and they demanded his inclusion in the Indian national team.

The selectors could not ignore his IPL 2022 performance and included him in the 2-match T20 series against Ireland and 3-match T20 series against England. In spite of being in the squad, Rahul Tripathi has failed to get a chance in playing XI, and players such as Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik, and Avesh Khan have got chances.
